Every year, the game brings in more people. Many are unware that the RB Slave Auctions used to be live and are now held via Silent Auctions on a site forum. Moving this here for those people who are unaware of why the RB Slave Auctions are no further run live in Yahoo Messenger. Besides the confs being a pain in the ass when you get kicked, I agree. I wish they were live again. I couldn't agree more! We all wish the Auctions were live again, but sadly with Yahoo messenger constantly kicking people and the problems of those being inside the confrence not being able to see each other is why we've had to put them via site board. For those who think it was something we'd rather have chosen to do, I'll post this in the OOC section for those who wish to further bitch. Including myself. Silent Auctions suck but not worth the hassle with Yahoo communications the way they are.
So... Discuss.

Perhaps if something as large as the slave auctions decided to use an IM program that isn't as fcked up as YIM, it would encourage people to switch to that despite RB's history of using that retarded program.

It's called skype?
Never messes up, holds a ton of people in conf and you can voice. Though you will have static..and no ever ends up kicked unless they want to.
If you needed a good messenger anyways >>

Oh, and OOC - why hasn't the lotto been nixed, seriously? NOBODY likes the damn thing. Fleecing the populace IC (we all know that if someone doesn't show up to claim the coin within the allotted time period, it's kept by staff) is great and all, but...maybe try a different percentage? 25% or less would still net a hefty prize. Any vamp with any business or math sense at all should be looking at that and deciding a 50% tax that they've got a 2.5-5% chance of return on is bad business.

There's also the fact that several people have suggested or even offered to set up IRC rooms for the auction. This was actually done two years ago after the absolute mess that was the attempt to hold an auction in the unmodded city chats. While there were some minor issues with the room when the event transfered over there, I think that, over all, it went smoothly and was far batter than y!m.
Of course, this has been suggested before and shot down by the staff.

Skype works, so does IRC generally.
However, Skype isn't supported by every computer, and can slow soe older ones down.
And some people have issues with IRC for some reason.
>.> I'd love for the auctions to be live, but it'd have to be fair for everyone.

Unless I'm wrong, there have always been proxy bidders. Those very few who can't get in due to whatever issues they are having can still bid that way. And as a person with an 8 year old computer that can barely handle Java anymore, I may be one of those effected by a potential switch. This could be bad for me too, but I'm willing to take the hit

IRC is a royal pain in the backside. Requiring people to download things in order to be able to take part is going to remove a lot of players from wanting to do it. livestream.com/Livestream doesn't require anything to be downloaded, there is no limit to the people in the room, and the room owner is able to control things to keep chaos at bay. There is the option to stream music and movies (hence the name) but the rooms work just as well with no media running.

You don't have to download for IRC, you can use a client like Mibbit, its browser baised and you dont download anything.

Sorry.. I can't do Skype. It isn't compatible with my computer. Already tried. As for mIRC or the RB chats. No can do. The yellowing kills my eyes and causes spot blindness over a short period of time so that doesn't work either. Not to mention the one time we did try it in chats, there were several that intentionally tried to mess it up. So, as far as I'm concerned that isn't an option anymore.
Sad thing is, when people intentionally try to set out to make bad things happen, it ruins it for others.
Hense, the silent Auctions began.
As for Prom's humans question.. I have never known anyone's coins to be witheld. Ever. Kathy's had Mina running the auction for at least 6 years now, and I know for fact she has integrity. She bends over backwards to work with people and their schedules. And please, as for the lotto.. don't say 'everyone' doesn't like it. That's a bit presumptious considering I know personally of the few that don't care for the lotto, where more of the masses do. Guess it's all about who you're talking to really.
I've got you beat Amanda. My computer is 11 years old and still kicking. So there's alot that isn't supported and I understand how that goes.

Is it able to control coloring? The times I've used it I enlarged the font, and I have never seen anyone have the text color changed from what the room owner had it set to. I'll poke at it tonight when I get home and let you know how much range it has from the owner settings.

What if you did live auctions but in sections? Like day one is 10 slaves, second is 10 slaves, third is 5 + the extras who sign up? Would that help at all?

Thank you Penny's human.. I'd appreciate that.
We used to do the females one night, then the men the following weekend. Worked like a charm until Yahoo decided to crap out.

People told you guys that having it in unmod was a bad idea. At that time anyone could get into those things and there are ways to see all the private rooms being used. Like I said, the IRC was used after the unmod disaster. As I recall you could do different colors and sizes for text, plus you could kick unruly people and it was browser based. I'll poke around a bit and see if I can figure out who set up the room that was used. Also, not all IRC rooms use yellow as the color for emoting... that seems to be specific to the RB chats. Just because the RB chats cause a problem for your eyes doesn't mean that the option should be tossed. There are a lot of different ICR hosts and I'm sure that with a little legwork on the part of the auction staff, you guys could find something.
