Willy Wonka, all the way.
Gene Wilder carries the insanity of Willy Wonka like no one else ever will, and Peter Ostrum has much more insanity for Charlie and doesn't have a speech impediment that makes me want to throw something at my screen like Freddie Highmore does.
Plus, the CGI cloning of the Oopmas in Charlie pisses me off. I was watching it yesterday, and the fact that the Oompas are mindless drones with no facial expression or personal character is the creepiest, most obnoxious thing in the world.
I have and always will love Willy Wonka way more.

Charlie and the Chocolate factory sticks closer to the original book which for some people will be important. Added to that some people will like it better simply because Johnny Depp is in it. The original is just that...original and unique. I'm glad they didn't just attempt to remake it, which I was worried about when I first heard about the movie.
As it stands, if I'm going to watch either, I'll save it for a night when I can watch both and get the best of both worlds.

Forget Charlie/Willie, I want to do nasty things with Oompa-Loompas.

Yer sick, Boomer. On topic: I've not seen Charlie, just Willie. I liked the book a lot, but I also like the first movie a lot... I'm afraid if I watch the new one, the old one will lose some of it's awesome factor.

Wonka's Willie in Charlies Chocolate Factory.

I just remember that the Willy Wonka one scared me. I'd say it's better than the Charlie one though but can't say I like either to be honest.

Willy Wonka all the way! I also think the oompa loomps in the new one looked retarted. I honestly only watched half of the new one and turned it off.

Much as I love Johnny Depp, no one can compare to Gene Wilder. <.< It's the hair *nods*

Charlie was great, minus the Oompa-Loompas, but it just cannot compare to Willy's awesomeness.

I found the original to be a good movie, the performances were fantastic. The new one was no where near it. Having those Oompa Loompas just made me want to punch something and the.. the.. INSULTS to the original music were worse. I couldn't bare to watch more than about 30 minutes, though Depp's ability cheered me a little due to the way he plays such oddball characters so well.
