Blood: The Last Vampire presents the story of Saya who, as the title suggests, is the last vampire…or as stated in the film, the last of the “originals.” She works for the humans hunting Chiroptera, which are vampiric monsters terrorizing a US air force base towards the beginning of the Vietnam War.
Now this is not a new film, having been released in 2000, nor is it all that original since several other films and books with vampires hunting other vampires had already been released previously to this film. However, it does stand out in the quality of the artwork and has spawned several spinoffs, including a manga (which sucked), several books and a video game (which I have not yet gotten a hold of), as well as a television show called Blood+ (which sucked even worse than the manga did). Furthermore, it has been adapted into a live action film which will be released in Japan later this month.
Saya, as I said earlier, is only one of many vampires that hunt other vampires that we have seen in modern literature and film. This concept is not foreign to any of us as vampires are constantly fighting one another in the city. However, the idea that a vampire would work for the humans is beyond comprehension, much like the Alucard/Arucard character from the Hellsing anime and manga.
The anime itself is a fun watch and I would recommend it, although it is quite short and could have benefitted from further exploration of the characters.

From what I can see, I much prefer the anime (This makes Saya look like not much more than a blood lust hungry freak). Oh, and the live action will probably fail because most live actions do - Just saying - Look at live action Dragon Ball Z.

Indeed. I've never understood the need to remake an anime into a live action film. They could have used the character and told another story, similar to what the television series did. Plus some ideas work well in one medium and not in another, thus why we have different versions of visual storytelling. I still cringe everytime a rumor starts to circulate about a director signing on to remake a live action Akira.
