1. Out of Character insults will not be tolerated by anyone, player or staff alike. While everyone knows that many players do not and will never get along, any disagreement can be raised in a respectful and tolerant way without name calling, accusations, or harassment. Excessive OOC insult (3+ warnings) may result in a temporary ban or disablement, including for moderators. Moderators who repeatedly break the rules will find that they may lose their position entirely.
2. The Proboards Terms of Service MUST BE OBEYED. This is because, frankly, nobody wants their board to get deleted. Yes, we are aware that many topics presented by playing a vampire roleplay game border on breaking the TOS, but our goal is not to do it. If you are unsure if something you want to post may be breaking TOS, please come to Sirena to ask first. The TOS can be found HERE for your viewing pleasure.
2a. Adjustment to the Rules: Persons breaking Terms of Service will be banned temporarily at first, then permanently for repeated infractions. As this is OOC, a person’s IP is liable to be banned and not simply their character name. If something you post does not CLEARLY break ToS but borders on impropriety as something that could be perceived as breaking ToS, you will be warned and asked to remove the post. If you decline or remove and re-post the offending item, you run the risk of being temporarily banned as well. Interpretation about what breaks the Terms is the sole discretion of the administrator with the input of the staff, but will be kept as basic as possible to avoid infringing on anything other than that which Proboards objects to. (Effective 12-3-09)
3. When it comes to OOC notes in IC sections we ask that you limit your notes to 3 sentences and mark them with a set of double brackets to clarify that these notes are in fact Out Of Character. Any further OOC discussion stemming from an In-Character thread needs to be moved to the OOC section after a maximum of 3 posts replying to the OOC topic in the IC thread.
4. Outside links are fine provided they comply with the Terms of Service.
5. Banners need to be no larger than 110,000 pixels [ with a limit of 550wx200h to 600wx183h ], and 200 kilobytes in size. Sorry about the original 1 megabyte rule, but I forgot dial up still exists.
Example:
550 X 200 = 110,000 pixels
600 x 183 = 109,800 pixels
Simple multiplication! Thanks to Etienne for this idea.
6. Similarly, photos need to be not too small or too large. As a rule of thumb, if the image stretches your screen in any way, and causes your scroll bars to theoretically explode, IT'S TOO BIG. If you can't read it, it's too small. We suggest the “message board” resize function on Photobucket, or condensing it into a text link.
7. You need to have an ACTIVE account in the game Vampires! The Dark Alleyway to participate in In-Character sections. We aren't super excited about people using alt accounts to come and make trouble, but we understand that some people play multiple characters as well. That being said, you need to have an active vampire (not D&B or DFC) to post in the IC sections, because if your character is dead or doesn't technically exist, then it really can't speak. Because of this, we require an active IGN to be placed in everyone's signature space or personal text.
8. We will be maintaining the ability to modify your posts. It is not required that a person choose to modify over double posting, but we do have a few guidelines for moderation. Please clarify WHY you modified your post in a note at the bottom. Similarly, there is a code put in place that informs other readers when you have deleted a post completely.
9. Bite is roleplayed as a paper newspaper OR an internet news forum. That is to say that your character cannot and should not do the following things, to follow with our roleplay standards:
- Walk around “inside” the newspaper: Your character is not reading Bite in a room with other people, unless they are in Damari's Cafe or you have previously discussed this with other players. Because of this, your character cannot hug, leave flowers for, or otherwise interact with another character without the player's permission. Bite does not currently own a building in the City where the characters are able to interact.
- Bite does not host body viewings for obituaries/zeroings: Your character will not be able to, again, interact with dead bodies. There is no building. When responding to threads, please keep in mind that your character is reading a newspaper or sitting at a computer.
All other roleplay (narrative or post-by-post) should be done in the Roleplay sections.
10. All we ask beyond that is that you, as readers, maintain your common sense and help out. For instance, the staff will work as hard as possible to moderate accordingly, but if we miss something and you catch it, let us know! We're all about working with you. If you have a suggestion, please don't hesitate to put it in the Suggestions board. Other than that, have fun!
11. If you are going to post a picture that others might find offensive, but is still okay under the TOS guidelines, please condense it into a text link. It's courteous, and people can still click to see your flesh wounds.
12. We don't like you to use black text on the forum because nobody can read it. Hidden messages are not okay.
