Vamp Name: Promethius Born Name: Cornelius H. Peabody Born Date: Forgotten Turned Date: Forgotten Bloodline: Mahrian (Psychic Vampire, see below) Height: Average Weight: Average Hair: Brown, Average length Eyes: Brown Affectations: Labcoat, Goggles, Cheap plastic scalpels Character Archetypes: Mad Scientist and Court Jester
Fun Facts:
- Hates alcohol. He considers the overimbibing of many of his fellow vampires to be a dreadfully tacky and weak-willed trend. On the rare occasion that he actually feels the need to take a drink WITH someone, he carries detoxification tablets which he'll put in his drink to convert the alcohol into a neutral sugar.
- Does not have a steady home nor a bed. He either crashes on top of one of the SRI lab tables, or if he's invited to be a regular guest at one of the many palatial mansions around the City, he immediately stakes out the boiler room and drags a cot in for himself.
- Buys jeans and t-shirts in bulk from an out-of-town distributor. He wears them until they're filthy or ragged, then just throws them out in favor of a new pair.

Brief History Cornelius was born in the US, and practiced science during the glory days of the lightbulb, telegraph, and the very first blood transfusion. This latter is where he focused his considerable talent, working to improve the methods of early blood banks across the country. Unfortunately, blood-borne pathogen security wasn't quite up to snuff back then, and while processing samples from an unknown source, Cornelius was exposed to vampire blood. Already an orphan from birth, there was no family to tie him to public life, and he withdrew as he began to realize what his transformation meant. As the Mahrian abilities and thirsts began to manifest, he gradually lost control and even withdrawal did not suffice to save him from the hunger.
The next several years are unknown to Promethius. All he remembers was being dragged off the street into a mental hospital and analyzed, then medicated. The report he took from the hospital just prior to breaking out lists him as having a cornucopia of comorbid mental disorders, not the least of which is a clean psychotic break. Prom refuses to seek therapy regarding these problems, choosing instead to rely solely on an extensive cocktail of experimental and prototypical medication. As the years pass, his vampire metabolism continues to acclimatize itself to the meds, requiring a steadily increasing dose to keep his symptomology in check.
After his hospitalization, he threw himself into scientific study once again. Prom has accrued advanced degrees and specializations in Robotics, Computer Engineering, Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Biology, and several other things. He does not have any formal training in surgery, he says he doesn't need it. He also claims to have a "black belt in tick-tocknology", though nobody knows what the hell he's talking about.
Since Promethius knows he's not exactly the most terror-inspiring figure, he tends to feed primarily on glee and lust. He accomplishes this by following his natural tendencies toward buffoonery and lecherism.
((I'll probably flesh this out sooner or later, but that's the gist of things.))

The Mahria The Mahria are an offshoot race of vampires, first commonly found near modern-day Germany in the 8th century. They are the beings from which the myths of the Succubus and Incubus are derived, and from where the word "nightmare" (German: "Nachtmahr") comes. (OOC historical info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mara_(folklore) ) Early Mahria would approach humans in their sleep to feed on the strong emotions experienced during dreams, and especially powerful or talented ones were able to enhance these emotional states for feeding purposes. Closely related to the First Race (traditional vampires), they display nearly identical powers and abilities, and are able to bind as both sire and partner with other vamps. The only difference of any importance is that a Mahrian feeds off of particularly strong emotions such as fear, lust, anger, and glee, rather than physical lifeblood, storing "pints" of this energy to power their abilities. Their fangs are vestigial, and vamp researchers theorize that they will disappear in as little as 5-10 generations.

The Starlight Research Institute At First Glance: The SRI is the organization of which Promethius is founder and president, which obstensibly conducts research in cybertechnology, robotics, prosthetic implantation, biochemistry, and a number of other fields. The SRI has offices in several countries, including the US, Germany, South Africa, Russia, and the UK. IRS records show that it employs upwards of 2,500 people.
Upon Deeper Inspection: The SRI Home Office Building is a moderately-sized warehouse in Ravenblack City, containing several lab tables, a dentist's chair modified to include restraints and other gadgets, one computer desk overflowing with paperwork, a collection of dingy garage-sale furniture, and a metric crapton of half-finished projects and spare parts - both mechanic and human. Prom and a handful of lab assistants (amoral or submissive enough to be trusted) work there. It is the only physical location of the SRI - the other "offices" are simply drop-boxes and rented private mailboxes which eventually forward mail to the warehouse. IRS records are grossly incorrect, obviously - Prom employs a small accounting firm to complete yearly taxes for his first 2,500 victims, both inflating his employment numbers, giving him aliases whenever necessary, and saving him the hassle of explaining where the bodies went. The SRI hasn't turned out anything of note in the past 75 years, though Prom insists that he's working on an aerosol dispersal device for holy water.
Despite openly claiming ownership of SRI for the last five years and even advertising it from time to time, it has remained relatively unknown out of sheer luck. The only vamp that's ever asked Prom about it is Gypsychild, and the only vamp who's ever been inside is Inu.

Notable Relationships:
Vera Promethius Loves Vera. That capital-L kind of Love where romance is nice and all, but what really matters is the other person's happiness, and putting their best interests first. And as such, Prom is completely convinced that he is not right for her and trying to have a traditional relationship with her will bring her nothing but pain. As a result, he's chosen to remain on the sidelines while she binds to Brom. The whole thing confuses him greatly: Logically everything should be alright, since she seems happy, and it's not as if he hasn't expressed his feelings for her in his own way...but there's just something odd about it all that he can't place his finger on. Regardless, Prom is fiercely protective of Vera and blindly defends her honor to the point of violence. She can do no wrong.
Gyspychild Gypsy might be Prom's closest friend, but nailing it down as just that is a very odd thing. They've been lovers at some time or another, half-serious jokes about siring have gone both ways, but mostly there's just an honest ease of camaraderie that Prom hasn't found anywhere else. Around Tshaya, he's free to be both who he was and what his nature has made him, without apology or regret. There was a time when Prom might have pursued a relationship with her, but his respect for her partner, Rykoth, and the depth of their relationship is not something he'd risk approaching so casually. Instead, he simply prizes their friendship and her ability to put him completely at ease.
Count Tuna Tuna is probably the one guy that Prom feels close to in the entirety of the City. Tuna severed from Prom's sire Ophelia in order to start his own line, but Prom still considers him a brother, someone he can actually relate to and confide in. Guys just don't get close. Fistbump.
Inu Once Prom's partner, Inu savaged any ties she had with him when he awoke to find himself severed. To add insult to injury, Inu garnered the support of her family (also Prom's family at that time) against him. Prom removed himself from the family and began harbouring a hurtful dislike for the whole group, which grew into a seething hatred toward Inu when she made overtures of reconciliation and then decided not to follow through with them.
After a long time of dwelling on this pain and hatred, Prom is once again trying to put it behind him as Inu expressed apologies (or what passes for apologies for her) and seems to be trying to foster goodwill toward him.
Coquette Though she is a fellow childer of Ophelia, Coquette is the vampiress most despised by Prom. Her disparaging remarks and outright insults toward Vera, as well as her willingness to air private business in public without regard for the instructions of her siress, have earned her this distinction. He has long seen these as unprovoked attacks, though he has a vague idea that it may have had something to do with Vera's brief tryst with Janus. This confuses him, since he somehow remembers being on good terms with Coquette at some point in time.
Beautiful Sin Sin has been the closest Prom has ever had to a childer of his own. As much as he adores both of Vera's childer, he just hit it off better with Sin. They're both wicked flirts who keep a cap on it around Vera, have terrible and twisted senses of humour, and aren't above giving it the slow jerk just to see how far they can drive people up the wall.
When Sin bound to Abel, it changed things. Prom knew it was coming, but was hoping somehow it'd turn out differently. While he encouraged Jen and Vera to find a way to stay close to her, saying that the blood ties they shared shouldn't be broken by another binding, and that it was their place to show love through anything, Prom actually stopped talking to Sin. He felt that it was the only way to show Sin that her actions are not without consequences, and he felt that after her comment that he "isn't really her blood sire, he's the easygoing one", this was the best way to reply. It hurts him not to speak with her, but he feels like it's the only way to be a good father figure and teach her a hard lesson.
JennyThePirate Jen is Vera's other childe, and much adored by Prom. He often remarks that in knowing Vera's childer, he was given the yin and yang of parental experience. While he sees Sin as impulsive but full of possibilities, he sees Jen as stable and trustworthy...but not as much of a risk-taker. He loves her willingness to listen, genuine-though-well-disguised innocence, and her drive to fix whatever she decides went "wrong".
Lily Prom's first partner, Lily is a dramatic whirlwind that somehow manages to simultaneously confuse and intrigue him. She seems to have dropped off the radar for the most part, but every once in a while she'll turn up and set things astir once again. The last couple of times, Prom wasn't even much tempted, as he was still trying to make a traditional relationship with Vera work out.
