I'll try to talk to Zuri, but this is a slam, as was mentioned. A lot of the fun in it is the performance.
I'm just going to trust the judges here to report to me anyone badgering them about picking a certain contestent, and to be impartial as far as judging.
This is, first and foremost, about having fun! I don't want to ruin that because of being all paranoid.
Also! Just an idea I'm tossing around! The prize is getting HUGE, so I was wondering what you all thought about splitting it. (Like, first, second, third...) This is a choice I'm going to leave entirely up to you guys! Let me know what you think.

O.o It's not that huge of a prize.

Coq's right. It's not that huge, but I think you should wait and see how many entrants you get. I mean, if you only get five people, it'd be kinda dopey to split it amongst four.

Okay. Not huge, then, but a great deal more than I'd expected. Coq's right. It's not that huge, but I think you should wait and see how many entrants you get. I mean, if you only get five people, it'd be kinda dopey to split it amongst four. And, yeah. That makes sense.

Cute, love! If I could make a suggestion for the rules. If you're going to let contestants put up two peices of work, you should have them do it in the same performance but make it obvious that they are indeed two seperate peices, to keep from cluttering. Just an idea! Don't shoot me!

I believe the first every poetry slam was at the Cafe - last year sometime; HRmmm Gevurah, Boomer, Carpathia and.... bugger what was her name again, I'm pretty sure the fourth was Altania.... Now - who was the judge again. Dammit... I can't remember. Maybe it was Altania.. or.. bah, my memory fails me. Maybe the contestants that night can remind me. Feel free to use the venue again if you've a mind. The place has a raised platform that worked quite nicely the last time. The judge was Michiru and Carpathia was the winner. Awesome poet that one.

An addition to the rules, because I've been getting questions about this one. Guys! This isn't the suburbs! If it doesn't violate the rules of The Bite (which are pretty lax) then I don't care what your poem is about! I do believe that the only rule as far as written content goes has to do with explicitly pornographic work. So if you're in doubt, read the rules for The Bite.

2) It's completely impossible (and unfair) to exclude family and close friends of judges. HOWEVER! Any attempts made to sway a judge, including but not limited to: bribery, harassment, blackmail, threats (yes, even playful ones), begging, etc, will result in immediate disqualification. Seems to me and if I remember correctly, during Zuri's contest, submissions were to be given anonymously so that Judges were unaware of whom had written what and I believe a number was to be assigned.. grrr.. I'll look for the breakdown and/or see if I can get in contact with Zuri on how he had originally set it up.
I think he'd be pleased to see something he'd worked very hard on finally becoming a reality. And it's nice to see a city wide event that everyone can participate in and have some good fun! It's a fucking poetry SLAM! You're supposed to get up on the stage and SAY it not fucking submit it like a weak ass PC punk. Jesus Wonky, pullyour head out of your tits and get some oxygen to your brain. You're making it too easy for me to make you look like a moron. Enjoy the cafe. I'll let Ava and Kemp know you're all heading that way. Stage on your right as you walk in the door. Can't miss it, it's the one that's raised about a foot off the floor. Try not to destroy too much furniture in your enthusiasm. It's very hard to explain to the humans how a chair leg gets itself wedged into the ceiling.

The judge was Michiru and Carpathia was the winner. Awesome poet that one. I have always enjoyed Tia's way with words. No one and I mean no one in this city has the ability to take two paraphrases in which to describe air. It's amazing....*smile*

I think that this is a lovely idea. However, I must set straight a few things said about me and my original project. My original project was to establish an artists haven for our city, on which I am still working (No thanks to the tragic life of my human). *chuckled* Emmett, if you want any help at all, I'd be more than willing to assist you.
Also, Damari; I know that the Cafe is already in association with The Bite, but I'd love it if you'd open a franchise of your Cafe in the building I've been laboring over for months to open. *sighed, slamming his hand against his head at the computer screen*
So, I just need to know if anyone wants help. With submissions, details, a possible list of rules. I'm here to help. I'm always available, and if I'm not around...you can always leave me a voicemail. Forgive my randomness and rambling in my response. This was one of the first ideas I ever had for improving the city.
Now that I've made a complete ass of myself, I take my leave.

((Apologies for not being around or checking the thread for the past few days. There were some things that needed to be taken care of, and real life obviously has to come before RB.))
So! The slam is officially open starting Tuesday! I don't have any real updates to add, so I'm just going to say that I'm insanely excited about this.
And once again: If anyone has any questions, please, feel free to ask me. You can reach me on my cell if you don't want to ask here.

Franchise the Cafe?
You do realise that would mean I would be the Franchisor and you the Franchisee and in being a Franchisee you would be obligated to pay the Franchisor costs to hold a Café Damari Franchise?
I’m not entirely unwilling to entertain the idea but I need to be induced to go to the trouble of it.
That would mean splitting my staff between two buildings and then hiring in new staff to cover. Then we’re talking about fit out cost, leasing, refurbishment, stock, hours of operation clientele. What is your proposal in respect of the projected ROI. What will this move have that will benefit me?
What will I gain here? You brainstorm your proposal and pitch it and then we’ll discuss options.
