Once more readers my travels bring me interesting times. But then it is a pleasure to be immortal and have moments that make you ponder your past as well as your thoughts on the city.
I do love watching other immortals at work and chatting with newer ones who provide new insights. This latest eve I sat here chatting with a child of my friend Mandolin. Having found him an interesting chatting companion before when we discussed how my polite peacefulness and his views went against each other. This latest sit with Rienhardt found the fellow being once more his stubborn self and refusing to start a topic of conversation. So after that amusing debate and a few tender exchanges of endearments, we were off on the topic of war. For the fellow inquired my thoughts on this latest bout between the Family of Dumont and My former brothers clan L'inconnu.
Now indeed I have traveled through various wars in my time, participated in a few and watched others happen. As I told the gentleman, it seemed to not be a war so much as a conflict that caused more chatting then actual fighting. Though the chatting was quite interesting, with these threats here and those accusations there. But a war, well I think not.
For to me a war is something that lasts longer then a few days of tripped holy waters and loud voices. Though most wars contain those. But far more often to me a war is an event that many sides of the city at the others throat. Parties of blood hunting vampires hunting for targets as the other side tries to use alliances, inflaming words along with any other tricks to save their hides.
And then we got on the discussion on how the city was boring and quiet. Now personally on one hand being a more restful sort of vampiress, I quite enjoy peace and quiet. Having been through a few blood baths, watching baby vampires die and collecting family members, well its not something I like on a daily basis. Now on the other hand as we chatted, I had to agree with his views that city is a bit too quiet. Now I had a theory about this readers, and feel free to ignore, agree or disagree with it.
As I explained to him, at times this city seems to go through a power vaccum at times. Where all the powerful experienced sort of warriors and general immortals have gathered together in a few aligned clans. Leaving only barely beginning clans filled with a few experienced members along with a host of younger immortals seeking to get a name.
Then you have the big families that act as clans, along with the group of loners who contain all sorts. And lets not forget the clan switchers, those who go through clans like water.
But back to my ramblings. As I was saying, this void of quiet that runs the city, is simply the gearing up. As small clans fight to make names and gather resources. While the bigger ones wait like spiders for the foolish to attack. All the time, providing a city full of blood lusting immortals with entertainment for when the big moment comes and its all out war. Its not true peace, for in the quiet shadows, words and plots are being exchanged.
Now will this next big one be something as watch worthy as COB versus AA or any of those types of wars. Well no one really knows, but then that is the fun of sitting back and watching the contestants.
