Well this is just a fine mess. The bottom line here is this -- RB isn't the brightest game maker ever and he is often surprised by the ingenuity of others to get around how he perceives the game to function. I don't think he thought through the idea of clones/alt/thralls until the first Clone War and I still think his philosophy is evolving. His ideas of acceptable and unacceptable quizzing have changed over time. I don't think he thought through people's abilities to get around page click limits or pass coins until confronted with people who figured out how to by-pass his systems. He does seem to get caught with his pants down often.
Everyone will exploit whatever methods they can to get ahead. I call bullshit on those who claim purity here. It's only because no one presented you the option, you can't figure out how or you don't care enough about this game to bother. Please don't bother to regale me with your pretentious piousness. Frankly, I would never spend the time or energy running around a small town's worth of alts for any reason whatsoever but that doesn't mean in my past I never cleared my cookies or did other questionable activities.
What saddens me most about this is that it's all so personal. Those caught are those reported because RB isn't smart enough to create automatic systems that catch double attacks, coin washing or any of these activities that for which people are being DFC'd. So we're left with OOC reporting about IC suspicions and perceived wrongdoings. It affects game play in a lot of unnecessary negative ways. It affects RB because he has to investigate allegations that may or may not prove to be true, which can be a waste of time that he could be spent improving the game.
Which brings me to another point - game improvements. Think what you may of Sam, but he has provided more game improvements and amusements than RB has for quite awhile. The changes RB made to the chats were really only to minimize the complaints he received and affected the majority of us very little. During all of 2008 these was one improvement - safe deposit boxes. And this year? Nothing. So I am grateful for anyone who takes it upon themselves to make the game more interesting.
I realize that RB makes very little from each and every one of us but that is his choice. I personally would prefer a pay-to-play with game improvements than the present system. I may be alone in wishing that. (It is not necessary for the poor of you to reiterate your economic woes. I do not share them or care about them.) I know I would not tolerate such blinding apathy on the part of the game maker if I were shelling out real money on a monthly basis. I don't have to make that decision. I have to live with RB's foibles and flaws as does everyone else. You get reported, he finds you broke his present interpretations of the rules and you get to deal with his punishments. There you go.
Sam, I do have to agree that if you are unhappy with most everyone in the game: don't pay and don't stay. That same money you pour into this game can go to any number of better-managed games where you can meet other people. You are under no obligation to provide us the game improvements that RB will not or cannot do.
