I have charged for one banner, as i've mentioned before, but it was an animated one that took many hours to make. Other than that, they are usually gifts. There is something to be said about the process and the learned software. I started using Photoshop 5 years ago when I started making Flash Cards for Tattoo studios, and I learned the program on my own.
Then, the banner making was great to learn the program more in-depth. It brought me great reward, though not monetarily, when I was asked to do the publicity poster for the Dalai Lama event, when he was here a few months ago, giving a conference.
The poster went public, online and into every Montreal bookstore. My work. *grins* and hours? Oh My Gawd, try 4 weeks of 3-4 hours a night... cutting out the portrait of the Dalai from a very busy background. My eyeballs almost fell outta my head. However, it was the most rewarding work I've done in my life. its amazing how banner making brought me toward that... [a href="http://[del:delphine]"]http://[del:delphine][/a]

Me On topic >.> I charged in abyss for banners, however coins/bb there were easy to come by. Here they arn't unless you coin wash which is illegal. I don't mind paying for a banner at all, but my piddly bank account here can really only take a 5k-10k drop. I do feel the need to pay for things given to me, specially if I request something really specific....But most people don't ask or don't want it when I offer. So yeah... And this banner :: Took me the longest, at 2 hrs total, including cutting and talking on yim. I was working on backgrounds at the time and I liked how it came out. Granted, it was never used and will never be used. *shrugs* And it was free, I was just inspired to make a banner and needed a subject.

What this with all you guys talking about putting 1+ hours into your banners? I think it's strange. The only time I think more than an hour is if someone is rushing me to do their banner. And I have to force creative juices then nothing looks right. Most of my banners come out in fifteen to thirty minutes when I'm in a mood and the creativeness in me is activated. I concur. As for my opinion...I don't charge simply because I enjoy my artwork. Of course, I would like to charge those that wear my banner for two days then change it for something that gives me a migraine from it's lack of...artistic ability. *headdesk* But back to point...I agree that it's up to the artist and the person they are working their craft for. Edit: OH! Also...Jace....don't worry about making banners for Mando. Stealthy won't ever see them and your art is never brick worthy. *will give you my opinion of her banners privately*

Thanks virgo_shelly player. That kinda made me crawl under a rock and blush a lot. Blair, my stuff isn't brick-worthy, but the little llama guy is? There's something wrong with your eyes, woman! I don't take anything less than at least 8 hours to design anything. ...You say that like that's fast... Of those I know majoring in graphic design, the projects are usually way larger than banners in both size and requirements. I've had friends awake for 36 hours working on a single creation (I think it was a flash design)... 8 hours is a piece of cake for some things.
