Human inventions,
by Zuri Petteri-Adaire
Apologies for the misleading title. This isn't a rant so it doesn't get a star wars themed title. I simply thought I would share a few musings on some of the inventions our food has come up with that I find quite intriguing.
Invention 1:
The inspiration for this article is the new API outsource called Google Wave, on which I am writing and posting this exact article. For those of you that do not know what Google Wave is, allow me to enlighten you. Google Wave is a re-imagining of email. The big wigs at google australia all got together and started thinking of another way in which google can fix our lives. The end result? Wave.
Consider the format of any online conversation as it exists today. One person begins a thread, another responds, etc. It's all very linear. Wave changes that. A wave is a conversation or a document that can be edited and discussed on in real time. Five people are online and they can all see what each other are saying as they say it. There's no going in, refreshing, re-refreshing and posting.
Waves are also limited to their participants, if someone wanted something to remain within a certain circle of friends, they could do so without having to worry about it leaking...well, they would still worry about it, but they'd know who to hunt down.
Wave has an awesome little feature called playback, which rewinds time in the thread and allows you to see edits made and who made those edits. In short, it's awesome. I say this to you, because I've got six invites left on my own google wave, so if anyone is interested in this, lemme know.

I don't have another invention to ramble on about without dating myself beyond all reason. I don't plan on regaling you all with stories of how back in my day we walked fifteen miles, in the snow, uphill both ways, to do anything. Instead, I'll simply discuss a topic I wonder about every once in a while.
In my spare time I take correspondence courses online under the guise of Charlie Wonka. Surprises me no one stops and thinks about it. Anywhoo, I recently took a class discussing how media in our lives has evolved. There are two topics I'd like to open up for discussion along that train of thought. The first is digitalization. With the rare exception of digital paper, (Which everyone should check out. It's super thin lcd screens that show moving images. Kinda like a newspaper/magazine with moving photos and embedded videos) entertainment as a medium has almost all gone completely digital.
I for one believe that this is the destiny of all things, newspapers in particular. The tangible just isn't worth the wait and the extra cost anymore. People want to be able to download something and keep it on their MP3 player or on their i(Insert some stupid fruit name).
It is this desire of all beings, Vampire, Lycan, Zombie, Hybrid annoyance, and human that leads into the second topic. Media hubs.
In the near future, there will come a time where all the media we consume exists in two places. There will be a home media center which contains all of the books we read, the music we listen to, the videos we watch, all of it. And there will be a pocket sized one with a more limited storage, for travel. Some see it as a blessing, they won't need to pack fifty million things when going on a trip, they won't have to worry about damaging disks or losing books.
What do you all think? Should we all just forego tangible media? Do you like the concept of Google Wave? Can I have a taco from any of you? Will Rel attack me for mentioning Zombies, twice? All this and more coming up after the break.
