To my knowledge, the original reason why it started is because custom says he who gets the kill shot does whatever he wishes with the body. Some abused the bodies, hence the fighters asked friends to take the last shot and take real care of their bodies. Because of that, I understand those asking the LAST shot be taken by friends, even though it might help the attacking side. That certainly was the sentiment behind the kill shot. In order to 'protect' the body, someone might steal the shot to be able to give the last account of the death to the city since it was generally understood that right was for whomever gave the final blow. Although with the papers, that rarely happens happens anymore. I miss that aspect.

As the Lomax's can attest its important that you have someone take the kill shot. ;D

I agree with what has been said by those before me, for the most part. I believe that different pires have different motivating factors behind their decision of whether to die by friend or foe, depending, of course, on the situation. Another possible thought has come to me and I believe that on occasion may be the cause of these erratic actions that most likely are last minute ideas. Is it not possible that some pires suffer from the malady that is suffered by humans, depression? It seems logical to me that if one was of weak spirit that the idea of being killed on their own terms might seem a way to rid themselves of the uncomfortable feelings that they are experiencing during the time they are being zeroed. I agree that in most cases this is not an honorable way to die, but I cannot condemn someone for their choice in this matter as it is a personal choice somewhat like the choice of following torpor traditions.
just a thought

If you want don't want to enemy to get the kill, don't give them a reason to attack you. If you do give them a reason to attack you, suck it up buttercup and go out with Hw's flying. ;D

Look its simple. People began taking kill shots from the enemy so as to avoid the humiliation of the enemy desecrating the body. Guess what an enemy takes the kill shot they can do whatever they want.
some people cut off ears, some people even used to cut off heads (they were returned after 2 weeks back in the days when torpor was enforced hardcore) wondering when? Archangel did it to Yankees Suck. You should hear the crazy shit Evil Bill used to do to those that the church took down.

*looks at the pire before her with curious eyes
Yes, I remember hearing about you, I had just come to the city and was just a street urchin and there was a story going around about a pire that did the things that you seem so proud to boast of. Crucification wasn't it? And your actually proud of that?
We are monsters and our methods of survival will cause nightmares for most humans, but that does not mean that we require cruel actions and disrespectful defilement of our enemies, does it? Is the tradition known as torpor not the accepted act for one who has been defeated to show respect and honor to the one that comes out the winner? You will have to allow me a certain amount of ignorance as I am fairly new to the city. But, I see no honor in the acts that you speak of and I certainly see no reason for you to taunt the family that you committed these acts upon again so long after the fact, but of course, that is your choice, but in my opinion it doesn't speak well of your character.
Lastly I ask you this, what is it that drives you to take someones burnt and blood let body and hang it on a cross and what is it that you gain after doing so?
just curious.

I will explain to you why I commit such acts with glee. Memory childe. Memory, you see we are immortals, and in being so no matter what I do. (Barring intense psychological warefare causing Dead and Buried) I cannot kill a vampire with any permenence.
The Lomax's looked on in terror and fear when there first child hung from the cross, it was burned into there memory, a reminder that when facing against Sypheronias you will be shown no leniancy.
They will never forget. Just as I will never forget the dishonor of losing my duel with Seth, we exchanged pains, and they have never been the same. A little more polite, a little more subtle since that battle.
Damari still holds her throat whenever she sees the dagger Moirai bit into her flesh.
It is a reminder of your victory, complete and total. That is after all the only victory you can have when faced with eternity."

*Stares intently at the pire who had spoken*
I appreciate that you have taken the time to explain your motivations to me. It is clearly a subject that you have thought about often, and I believe that it is something that has taken a permanent place on your soul. You seem passionate in your description of both the victims and the ones that shame their bodies at a time when they are defenseless. Your words do not change my opinion of what is acceptable in this matter, but they have made me look at you in an entirely different light. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my query, this has ended out being a very interesting and educational topic.
