*bows* I've always been one who enjoys asking questions people wished hadn't been asked...
Since as a few others (or so I have been led to think), I am thinking about coming here instead of another place where some mishandled similar issue has been raised, I would like to know more about the way the editors view the concept of moderation, and how they intend to exercise that powers they hold over us...
Yanno all the time and energy unpacking takes...
Both on the theorical and pragmatical standpoint, I am curious to know how you think this should be handled, whether we will be appropriately chastised when erring on the wrong side of caution and respect, and/or if we are to expect to have our humans come complaining about their having a sore butt because of our actions.
*takes a seat, smiling, and waits*

Well since the paper is for us, and we are the ones who misbehave shouldn't the moderation be directed at us? It would make sense and it would save our humans some sore bottom tissue....

So very, very true. I couldn't agree with the two of you more. As a result, I have canceled my subscription with a certain other paper.

Warning: This will be all mashed with OOC stuff. Moderation is for when people break rules. Since this place is for your vampires, why should we moderate from an OOC standpoint? Seems a bit ridiculous, and a cheap way to hide your vampire behind your human's moderation, and call questioning that moderation " crossing " since the human moderated, not the pire. Like I said, utterly ridiculous. Moderation will come from the vampires, and it will come when rules are broken. I'm not sure my rules list is extensive enough, and as the place grows, I'm sure I'll go into details as far as rules go when I notice something inappropriate. I hope that answered the question.

The moderation of vampires on Bite is done by us, the vampires. It's as simple as that. ((OOC note to follow for more clarification, in the OOC section))
Humans can do whatever they want around here, but I can't guarantee they won't get snatched up and drained of blood rather quickly. Their actions are not -my- concern, and I, Coquette, will most certainly not concentrate on what they are doing anywhere near this publication.
A vampire being an idiot falls under the actions of the vampire and the vampire only. If we feel you are getting out of hand (which, the boundary is pretty far because of our free speech policy) then we will moderate you as we see fit. We want you to be able to speak your mind, so honestly? There shouldn't be a lot of moderation here for us to do. But, as readers, you're going to have to realize that if we choose to moderate you, it's because you deserved it and you need to accept the consequences of your actions, because you're the one who chose to behave the way you did. We don't expect nor condone you passing the blame off on an unsuspecting human just because you don't want to take responsibility for being a douchebag.
We have a very liberal hand here, and we're not going to smack you on the back of the head and issue a "GTFO" for disagreeing with us and promoting adult discussion or even arguments. None of you have to like each other, or like us, but it'll go both ways. We're responsible for the way we moderate you, just like you, the vampire, are responsible for the way you behave and wish to portray yourself in our publication.
Also, an article is pending about rumors that readers are leaving BCIN due to this very problem..

Shocking? Quite.
Every 'place' has to have rules but here, they are more relaxed and and as a result, there are less of them. Kind of like a paper for mature vamps! Shocking? yes it is but in a good way.
Although I'm sure the odd one will be made as we go along, for me, the major one is not going OOC vulgar one one's ass. I'm sure there are some whining in the city that they'll never set foot in here because it's a D'dary paper and D'dary favoured which is bullshit.
Whether an opinion is nice or not, don't you feel much better when you know exactly how someone feels instead of them writing an opinion and concentrating on whether they will be modded and therefore, you get a half-assed answer. (Did that make sense?)

Probably. But what those whining don't understand is that, unlike other families, we aren't pussies. So if someone insults us, we aren't going to try and get them moderated to stop, cause it hurts our feeelings to get made fun of ... Instead we'll just insult them better >.>

Hmmm, okay, so to sum it up...
I would get hit by the fellow vamps I'm insulting way before the vampiric moderators come biting my ass, because it's a free speech place. If I insult someone, then I'm likely to have my crap flung back at me, including interest rates (that is, if they got what I flung at them). The main risk being to meet either someone better at insulting as I am, or someone worse than me at being insulted without being angered into attack.
If I were to have bad aim and landed insults on humans, then editors might come knocking at my door telling me that I need glasses, and maybe a little rest. If the human that shares my body with me were to be found insulting a fellow vampire or another human around here, then fellow vampires or humans would properly chastise him (be mean, he deserves it!).
I was just wondering whether you'd favour the public manner ("mod note"), or the private one (message into the ear of said human or mine).
I have to admit that I'm starting to feel that my apprehension regarding the moderation of moderation is not justified. Anyhow, I guess this was still worth asking for, as Coquette said, this matter happens to be one of the reasons why I and at least 2 other fellow vampires I know of have come here.

In all honesty I believe you guys are doing great...*smiles* Besides I know that Coquette has no issues telling people when they are being dumb; she is rather sweet that way.
The moderation issues have lead to some disgust on my end at other publications as well. Though I am, if rarely, at the end of being moderated (both times by my husband; none can claim him biased) I have seen others get smacked down for disagreeing with a current favorite.
My main suggestion is keep up the good work.

I have to admit that I'm starting to feel that my apprehension regarding the moderation of moderation is not justified. Bingo My grandchilder don't fear voicing opinions and so don't fear anyone else's. They have created here a true indie news source. Our Rena summed it up nicely
