Hard to say it better than Vera did, on the Ghettos note. As to the rest of it - I have no childer, obviously. The few that seemed like pires I could bond with were quickly fought over and snatched up by the constant cloud of siring-harpies that dwell on this sort of thing. I'd imagine you'd make test tube babies simply for the point of draining them at a later date.

Nah, he just steals my childer and corrupts them. They were lovely little ladies before they met him, I swear it.

He probably saves all the test tube babies for ophelia... I bet that's what's really in all those beakers he gives her. Little embryos.

I'd make some witty comment alluding to the potential being that they were easily corruptible, but I can't quite work out how to word it.

Psh. They're not that vulnerable if they got anything from their sire - I've been working on corrupting you for a while now. ;P

With all my childer to date, I went about siring in a very similar way. First, I was simply a 'teacher' of sorts, helping them with their powers without suggesting siring at all. Then, I waited for them to suggest I sire them, or I hinted at it without making them feel like they absolutely had to or I'd never speak to them again, etc. I think this is why Sin and Jenners are still with me, because it helped us build a really strong bond before siring took place. That's the important part though, having a strong bond, because that's what makes the relationship last, not the level of power the potential childe is at. Actually. That's exactly how I wound up with most of those sired to me. 4 out of 6 were ALL students in OI when I was a teacher. And I follow the same path, really... I dont go around campaigning for childer. If they want me, they'll ask. I may drop a hint or two... but I try to never make it sound like they'll lose my friendship or guidance if they should choose another. As for ghetto-siring... I have no problem with it... several of my childer rose from there, and a few still visit on occasion. The difference between them and those I wrinkle my nose at, is the will and desire to succeed. My childer, chat-rats or not, have all expressed a great desire to better themselves and either have, or are actively working on getting all their powers. Its that drive that catches my eye.

There is nothing wrong with siring one who holds no powers, nor is there anything wrong with only siring one which is fully powered. My feelings on this are ambiguous as I have sired both, and probably will again. I tend to look more for the personal connection. Do their beliefs and my own mesh? Can they maintain certain requirements that I ask of them?
I try to help my childer as best as I am able. I guide them through advice and what little wisdom I possess. Yet I still let them make their own choices. When I sired Sia, it was after I had known her for about a year. I had been her instructor at the school, and a friend first. I remember when I asked her to sire under me, her response was, "What are the advantages to having a sire?" This was an extremely important question, and one that not many people tend to ask. I feel the childer can teach the sire just as the sire teach the childer. When I sired Seth Lomax, it was after he and I had spent a great deal of time together, talking and watching each other and our mannerisms to see if we could come together and last. There are certain things that I expect from my childer and this is made plain before the siring even happens.
The act of siring another is not something that should ever be rushed into, nor taken lightly. People need to learn to take their time and get to know each other before siring. If it's meant to be, the wait is well worth the time invested. There is nothing saying that during the interim of getting to know each other and your personal goals, that the potential sire can not help the potential childer just as they would if they had already sired.
As far as not siring anyone from the Ghetto's, I will have to disagree as well. Not everyone who frequents the Ghetto's is necessarily a ghetto pire. Oftentimes it is a case of not knowing anything other than that place. There have been some who have been able to rise above the common "ghetto mentality" and actually find some modicum of success, or influence society in some manner. And, I do not necessarily mean influence in a negative manner.

I did too. I started getting most of my powers far before I sired under Abel, I kind of guided my way by myself through my powers, but he's also taught me lots about the city, as well as the rest of my family. I do have a question, ifn ya don't mind... why sever if they've fallen? I always wonder that. If you had a bond and still care for them, why let them go if they return to the earth to sleep? It doesn't cost you anything, it's not like you have a finite amount of childer that you can sire, so what prompts you to walk into the Hall and let them go? modified cause it came out as a quote *grins* silly me Because the bond left. It was a foolish choice of mine... I did kind of sire under impulse, because I thought we did have a connection, and it turned out to not be. Sometimes impulses work, sometimes they don't. Mine happened to be in the fail category. I'm assuming you're talking about when I severed Gryp, correct? Since.. he's been the only childe I've had and severed.. Edit: modified to add.

*nods* yeah in response to this topic in the first place. it's just such a strange notion this act of severing childer...to me and not obviously to the general population of ravenblack. i mean - so you get a bad egg or one who doesn't have the strength to make it here. I'm not particularly close to my sibling Lhiannon, as she's fallen into the shadows more than once, but I would be mortified if she was let go because the bond between her and my sire dissolved. In fact, I quite like that my sire is a vacuous nothing who wanders around the city. Would I like her mind to return once more? Sure! So I could smack the shit out of her for doing what she did, but at the end of the evening she created me. I guess there's a part of me that honors that, regardless of how 'good' she was as a sire or how 'good' I was as a childe. I've never understood how childer change sires as often as they change outfits. *shrugs* I hate that hall. Makes actually dealing with the situations created non-existent. Not a personal assault on your choice, not at all, as I've seen some sires take on fully powered vampies who's creators had abandoned them long ago and their bond is a fantastic one. I see why the hall is there and how it can succeed, I just hate it all the same

I will admit I've had a few sires. I had the first sire sever because I wasn't getting any real help on finding my way in the city. I had my second sire sever because she was gone from the city more than in it and I needed someone that was here. The third sire severed all but one childe because he was going to go to sleep for a while and didn't know if he would be returning - he wanted us to have a chance to have a sire that would be around. My fourth sire I had sever me ((well - like the second one - they were being vamp sat at the time)) because of the reasons for number 2. My fifth sire I bound to more out of friendship but after problems for me in that family, she asked if I wantd severing. Yes I'm on my sixth sire, but she is my last and the funny thing is that my very first sire is now my brother and he makes a much better brother. In some way or another tho I have stayed with the same family - with exception to the year I was without a sire.
As for childer I have - one has been my daughter since her birth over 200 years ago, the second I brought into the city. I have sired to others that I had bitten as humans but they ended up being forced from the city ((deleted for inactivity)). To me, there are maybe a couple already in the city I would think of adopting, but I don't go looking for childer. I may let those ones know, but I don't push anything.
