I need some people (preferably 20, but I'll take what I can get) to just answer a few questions for a college project I'm doing.
Here's what the text of the project states: "Ask at least 20 [people] to describe the role, if any, that religion plays in their daily lives. You should ask about not just ritual (such as attendance at worship meetings, or prayer) but ethics (how one chooses to treat other people). Try to determine whether or not demographic categories such as race/ethnicity, age, gender or socioeconomic status affect religiosity...."
Our guidelines are pretty loose so you can give me whatever details you feel comfortable giving. I don't care about your personal information, I just need to get this done by the end of the week and there's a lot of people on this forum. You can PM me or post here, I don't care, whatever you want to do.
I'd just like the following:
Name: (optional) Age: (age range if you don't want to be exact) Gender: Race/Ethnicity: Economic Status: (upper class, middle class, lower class, student) Area: (country and state or time zone or just the general section of the country) Education: (optional; if you've graduated high school or college) Occupation: (optional) What your religion is called:
Role religion plays in your life: Ethical standards you follow derived from your religion: Whatever info you feel is relevant:
If you're not religious or part of any religious organizations, you can reply to me as well, just so I can stick you in a chart to calculate percentages.
Done ;D

5 people so far, and hasn't even been 6 hours yet. I'm liking the pace so far, although I know more than 5 people have looked at this thread. <.< Also, new question! "Do you prefer your toast with butter or jam?" I swear it's not completely irrelevant.

Name: Puawai Age: 34 Gender: Female Race/Ethnicity: Maori Economic Status: Middle Class Area: New Zealand, South Pacific Education: Graduated High School Occupation: Practice Manager What your religion is called: Presbyterian/Ratana
Role religion plays in your life: Not a whole lot and everything. Mostly feels like not a whole lot. I don’t go to Church or go to Churchy things. But the basis of the teachings and methods sit with me. I’m ordained in one, apathetic about the other but always mindful of a lifetime of goodness and good things tinged with the blessings of a being larger than me in a universe beyond my comprehension.
Ethical standards you follow derived from your religion: Honesty Integrity Empathy Ethics Humility Sacrifice Giving Forgiveness Redemption Consequences Guilt
Whatever info you feel is relevant: Religion isn’t meant to judge but teach. I am not a believer in an unforgiving God but a translucent teacher and humble mentor who guides. I’m also not all that sure he exists but if you take out what the biased bastards who have raped religion for personal gain and taken the essence of the teachings back to their essentials then the teachings are awesome. Hard learned, a little prudish sometimes, but a good core to stem your life from as long as you don’t take your shit too seriously.

Name: Emma Age: 24 Gender: Female Race/Ethnicity: Caucasian? Irish, Native American, British... eh. Economic Status: lower class? I don't work. Area: Ohio, United States Education: Dropped out 9th grade. Occupation: Stay-at-home mom. What your religion is called: Agnostic? I guess... I'm a believer in God, just not sure what God is... Role religion plays in your life: I pray, I try to be a good person, because yes I do have a fear of becoming evil and going to a place that is worse than here. I know that sounds Christian, but I'm not a Chrisitian. ><; I just have a lot of that moral structure I guess... I try to teach my son the same values, but I don't put pressure on him at all to be religious or believe in God. I answer his questions the best I can... I ultimately leave his religious decisions up to him though. Ethical standards you follow derived from your religion: Be giving, share, understanding, faithful, loyal, kind, well-mannered, honest, hard working. Whatever info you feel is relevant: I just want to add that I don't think it takes organized religion to be religious, if that makes sense... Spirituality can come without a church. I found God in my own way, and I am glad cause it's really helped me get over some hard times when nothing seemed to matter in my life.

Laura told me to do this one.... I shall be nice Name: Kittie Age: 25 Gender: Female Race/Ethnicity: Let’s see; Irish mostly, Scottish, French, Native American, a few others Economic Status: Lower Class-Student Area: US, Michigan Education: In College Occupation: Student What your religion is called: Kittism (Me Religion) Role religion plays in your life: I believe that religion is a state of mind. There is no religion that is right or wrong and because of that I enjoy taken the time to hang out with people who have different ideals and views. I find that I learn more and can see the world a bit different. I believe that people want to believe that there is something better out there and something that makes life here in the now worth living because if not it would most likely end with a lot of people taken their own lives. So I would say that in my religion it’s about learning about how other people live within their own faiths. Ethical standards you follow derived from your religion: Understanding that there is no right or wrong when it comes to religion and you shouldn’t judge people based on what they choose to believe. However there are some things that I will not make a list that are morally wrong no matter what. Whatever info you feel is relevant: There isn’t much more to add to this. I mean the overall factor is that you need to be happy within that religion you wished to follow and be willing to commit to it with all your heart. Otherwise you are just going though the motions and that is pointless. Forgot this: Also, new question! "Do you prefer your toast with butter or jam?" Depends on the type of bread/toast >>

Name: Ash Age: 20 Gender: Female Race/Ethnicity: Caucasian Economic Status: Student, Middle Class Area: USA, resident of Illinois but going to university in Utah. Education: High School Diploma, Behavioral Coding Certification, 3 years undergraduate, CFLE- conditional certification. Occupation: Bookstore Night Manager What your religion is called: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon, for clarification but don't put that in your study because it's a nickname please.)
Role religion plays in your life: Central. Religion for me is a culture, a way of life, and the central standard I live by. Every choice I make is influenced by my religion be it what clothing to wear, what I say, what I eat/drink, or whether I partake in certain activities. I do attend Worship services for three hours every Sunday, and various other church related activities throughout my week, including 1 hour of institute and 2 religious education courses with 2 credits each. I attend a university that is privately owned by my church. So yes, a huge role.
Ethical standards you follow derived from your religion: Honesty Integrity Good Works Faith Divine Nature Individual Worth The worth of knowledge Accountability for my actions Responsibility for myself Do unto others as you would have done unto you Respect Charity Humility Forgiveness Empathy Morality Chastity The importance of choices. Modesty Being a good citizen of my country Being there for my fellow man/woman. Remember who you are. Respect for others beliefs I'll stop now >.>
Whatever info you feel is relevant: Religiosity is a very personal thing, only you can really decide how religious you are. If you're true to what you say you believe, then I think that's the core of religion.

Whatever info you feel is relevant: I'm not sure what this is asking, sorry! I don't know why some people are so confused by that, lol. It's just a section for you to put whatever you want... additional information, anything that expounds on an earlier statement, etc. One person put "I like cheese" although that's not really relevant to the subject matter.

Name: Matthew Age: 20 Gender: Male Race/Ethnicity: Wigger Economic Status: Student, i don't see how that is lower then lower class but eh.. Area: Australia Education: High school What your religion is called: Sheep of Sheepdom
Role religion plays in your life: We follow people around believing that there is an all knowing god that knows everything you do, and see's everything in the universe. An almighty creator of everything. Yet he's strapped for cash so requires us to give money to the local church who can then in turn send it up to god. (Or so they say). Otherwise he will send you down to a place of a eternal damnation, pain and suffering...but he really loves you deep down.
Ethical standards you follow derived from your religion: i must kill people for my religion even tho it says it is a sin.
Whatever info you feel is relevant: Pwned >.>, well you get you point.

Let's try that one again, except with more realism this time. And "student" isn't necessarily lower than "lower class," I just have it as a separate category for a few different reasons. Though realistically students have nearly zero income and (if in college) may be thousands of dollars in debt that puts them far into the negatives.
